Myofascial Release in Newport Beach

Some pain doesn't live in a joint or a single muscle — it lives in the connective tissue that wraps around everything. That tissue is called fascia, and when it gets restricted, it can pull on your body like a snag in a sweater: you feel the tug somewhere far from where the problem actually sits.

I'm Dr. Julie Stefanski, and myofascial release is one of the core hands-on therapies I use at Wholistic Abode in Newport Beach — because for a lot of stubborn pain, it's the missing piece.

What fascia does and why it gets stuck

Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue surrounding every muscle, nerve, and organ in your body. It's designed to glide as you move. But injury, surgery, repetitive strain, stress, and long hours in one position can cause it to thicken and bind. When that happens, movement gets restricted, muscles work harder than they should, and pain settles in — often aching, spreading, and hard to pinpoint.

What a session is like

Myofascial release is slow, sustained, hands-on pressure — not the quick strokes of massage, and not a machine. I work the restricted tissue until it begins to soften and glide again. Some areas melt quickly; others take patient, focused work. Most patients describe it as an intense-but-good sensation, followed by a distinct feeling of looseness and lightness in areas that had felt locked down for months.

At Wholistic Abode it's never a standalone gimmick: your session combines myofascial work with full-spine chiropractic adjustment, so the joints and the tissue around them get corrected together. That pairing is why the results tend to hold.

What it helps

Myofascial release shines for chronic neck and back tension, shoulder and hip restrictions, recurring injuries that never quite resolve, postural strain from desk work, headaches driven by tight tissue, and recovery after old injuries or surgeries. If your pain has been bouncing between providers without a clear answer, restricted fascia is worth investigating.
